True Story: YES

My mother is hard-of-hearing and attended a deaf and blind boarding school. It was very obviously haunted, because the blind children would complain about hearing strange footsteps on the stairs when nobody was there, or hear talking and laughing in the cafeteria when everyone was asleep. The deaf children would see all sorts of strange things. My mom has only told me three stories about what she saw (and she never lies, mind you!), and I'd like to share them with you.

Around Halloween every year, a strange little black dot would be in the backyard. It was like a tiny ball, not flat, but it had a hole through the center, like a ring. It was about as big as a half-dollar coin. Anyway, it would float about the backyard freely, going in it's own direction. the wind would blow one way--it'd go the other. Often, it would come up to the window, then go back again. The kids and the teachers were so afraid of what it might be, they never opened a door or window until it had left.

Another story was when my mom and about 8 other girls were 'listening' (keep in mind that they were deaf) to one girl's story. She was standing on a tiled floor, her feet one a single tile. Suddenly, the tile started to move! It didn't move away from it's place in the floor, but just tilted and rocked in all sorts of directions. The story-telling girl asked why the others were suddenly so wide-eyed, and they kept saying "Don't you feel that? Can't you feel the tile moving?" She didn't feel a thing. My mother believes that to this day, that girl still thinks that they were playing a trick on her.

My favorite of the stories is this one. There was a Halloween party at the school, in the cafeteria in the basement. My mom and her friend thought that the party was in the playroom, up on the second floor. It was a very plain room, with a wall full of lockers on one side, another wall with the door, one with a single window, and another with a blackboard in the center and a window to each side. When my mom and her friend walked in, they saw a pendulum, like one from a grandfather clock, in the window to the right of the blackboard. Nothing else. Just a pendulum, eerily swinging back and forth in the window. There was no grandfather clock in the room, or anything with a pendulum for that matter! My mom went up to the window, looking out of it, and searching the frame for something the boys might have planted to make it seem as though there were something strange in the window. Nothing. She couldn't even see the pendulum anymore. So she backed up, keeping her eyes on the window, and when she was at least 3 feet away from the window, she saw the pendulum, swinging back and forth. Both girls were so scared, they ran downstairs, tears streaming down their cheeks. Not many doubted them, because everyone had seen or heard something strange at one point or another. What caused this to happen? I don't know.

I don't know anything about the history of the building, but I do know that it was torn down some time ago, after my mom graduated from that school. A new school was built nearby, but no one has mentioned any strange happenings there.
